I ask my friends to share something they’ve been into recently; it’s a rotating cast of characters; don’t overthink it.

💬 TÁR dir. by Todd Field
“I’m a trained musician and music is a big deal in my family so I had high hopes for Tár… and it didn’t disappoint. Not because it was indisputably Good, but because it was a rollercoaster of reaction. The first half of the 2hr 38m viewing treads rather slowly (with interspersed jabs), but everything then quickly descends into chaos. Every person I watched the film with came out of the theater with a very different brain worm. Cate Blanchett is a dream. Obligatory shoutout to Jacqueline du Pre and the Elgar Cello Concerto.” - Katie
💬 Duval Timothy, “Ball”
“I came across DT through his hypnotic instrumentals, but after some digging into his background I found a multilingual creative working principally across food, music, and fashion. Despite the range, he's a relative digital reclusive and doesn't maintain a social media presence, do many interviews, or perform his music live very often. I admire his focus on the craft. For letting his work speak for itself, and for trusting that those who need it will find it on their own. ‘Ball’ is my favorite song of his because of the subtle transition from analog piano to digital synth near the end of the record.” - Sean
💬 Paramore Live at Austin City Limits 2022
“This particular live set has been on repeat since Paramore released their new song, ‘This Is Why,’ and has rekindled my love for the band (also the first song on this live set). They’ve managed to evolve their sound over their lifespan but don’t shy away from their pop-punk roots. I always appreciate when artists know what they want, know who they are, and go for it. Besides just being happy for Haley, Zac and Taylor’s comeback, I immediately noticed Brian Robert Jones on guitar as their touring member, who used to tour with Vampire Weekend. His energy is infectious and his sound is great. The sound mix in general throughout the whole set is also immaculate. 10/10 all around.” - Adam
